Get paid for the renewable energy you export
The government recognised the need for small scale generators to be paid for the energy they export. The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) was created to replace the Feed-in Tariff, which closed to new applicants in April 2019. The SEG is an obligation on larger suppliers, allowing customers to get paid for excess renewable electricity they send back to the grid. VoltX Power has now voluntarily joined this scheme.
What technology qualifies for SEG?
Eligible generation technologies and capacity limits include:
- Up to 5 MW: Anaerobic Digestion, Solar Photovoltaic, onshore Wind Turbines and Hydro Generation Stations.
- Up to 50 kW: Micro Combined Heat and Power (CHP).
How to apply for SEG payments
To apply for SEG payments from VoltX Power, email seg@voltxpower.co.uk and include:
- A valid MCS or equivalent certificate.
- A photo of your export meter.
- If you are VAT registered, a completed self-billing form.
Additional requirements
- You must own the generation unit.
- Your installation must be certified (MCS or equivalent).
- You must have a half-hourly export meter, with a Data Aggregator (DA) and Data Collector (DC) appointed.
- You must not receive FIT or SEG payments from another supplier for the same generation unit.
What happens next?
We’ll review your application and documents. Once approved, we’ll send you a contract and terms to review and accept. After setup, we’ll confirm your start date and ask for a recent export meter reading so we can apply your SEG tariff correctly.
Payments are made twice a year. If you also buy energy from us, SEG payments can be offset against your energy bill.
